I met comic book writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night, Criminal Macabre) when I worked on David Arquette’s “The Tripper” Movie. We hit it off…he’s an old punk rocker from the glory days of punk rock. He used to be in the DC band “Gray Matter” which was released on Dischord Records…yah man the glory days of punk rock. For years we’ve kept in touch always just saying “hey we should do something” but it’s harder than you think to find a comic book writer / graphic designer project that makes sense. We decided that we would just start our own project….Bloody Pulp Books. Our first book is taking Steve Niles prose of his character Cal McDonald from his Criminal Macabre series and making a classic pulp paperback. Steve brought on the amazing comic book artist Kelley Jones (Sandman, Deadman, and recently Batman: Gotham after midnight) to illustrate the book. We also have plans of a releasing limited edition collector’s edition:
Bloody Pulp Books announces a Limited Edition Package to coincide with its First Publication Release of, CAL MCDONALD DETECTIVE TALES: THE ‘Y’ INCISION
Featuring musical elements from band members of Tool and The Melvins!
Adam Jones of Tool is on board to compose and produce while King Buzz of The Melvins and Fantomas performing musical elements to enhance readers experience.
The project is still in the works and we hope to have the book released in 2011. For more information on Bloody Pulp Books check out: www.bloodypulpbooks.com
